PREVIEW
Fig. 1 — 4-Bit Johnson Counter INTERACTIVE

What You'll Learn

  • Build a twisted-ring (Johnson) counter
  • Get 2N states from N flip-flops
  • Compare Johnson and ring counters

How It Works

A ring of four D flip-flops where the INVERTED output of the last flip-flop feeds the first. Starting from 0000 it fills with 1s then empties, giving eight unique states from four flip-flops.

Components Used

Real-World Applications

Multi-phase clock generation, low-glitch sequencers, and decoded timing signals.
