4-Bit Johnson Counter
A twisted-ring counter: the inverted output of the last flip-flop feeds the first, producing eight unique states from four flip-flops.
What You'll Learn
- Build a twisted-ring (Johnson) counter
- Get 2N states from N flip-flops
- Compare Johnson and ring counters
How It Works
A ring of four D flip-flops where the INVERTED output of the last flip-flop feeds the first. Starting from 0000 it fills with 1s then empties, giving eight unique states from four flip-flops.
