Fig. 1 — Parity Generator and Checker INTERACTIVE

What You'll Learn

  • Generate an even-parity bit with an XOR tree
  • Detect single-bit errors by comparing parity
  • See why XOR is the parity operation

How It Works

An XOR tree combines the four data bits into an even-parity bit (high when an odd number of data bits are 1). The checker XORs the generated parity against a received parity bit; a mismatch lights the Error output, catching single-bit errors.

Components Used

Real-World Applications

Memory and bus error detection, serial protocols (UART parity), and storage integrity checks.
